[겨울휴가 - 2021. 12.] 울릉도/독도 여행 계획하기 1 - 예약 시 대략적인 주의사항 [winter vacation - December 2021] Planning a trip to Ulleungdo and Dokdo Islands 1 - Things to consider when you're booking

*이번 포스팅과 앞으로의 울릉도, 독도 여행 관련 포스팅들은 한국어와 영어를 조금 조금씩 섞어서 쓰기로 했다!

지난 2년?여간의 시간동안 정말 눈코틀새 없이 바쁜 하루하루를 보냈다.
회사가 바쁘기도 했고 코로나 때문에도 여행을 다녀올 틈이 없었다.

그리고 이번 겨울,, 큰 맘을 먹고 겨울 휴가를 떠나보기로 결심했다. 총 4박 5일 일정이다.

등산도 하고 맛있는 것도 먹고! 생각만해도 너무 신난다. 이번 휴가에 동반인은 회사에서의 절친 (U라고 칭하겠다)와 함께 하게 되었다.

I have decided to go to Ulleungdo and Dokdo with my close colleague this winter! I am extremely excited because I haven't been to a real trip since the pandemic first broke out. It will be a 4 night 5 day trip to Ulleungdo and Dokdo islands.

사실상 가겠다는 계획은 8월부터 잡고 있었는데, 정작 대부분의 예약과 확정은 11월 중에 대부분 하게 되었다.

I've been planning since August but most of my reservations for transportation and accommodations were made in November.

배의 일정이나 KTX의 일정이 보통 한달 전에 오픈이 되기 때문이다!
Because the ferry and the KTX schedule usually opens up a month before your departure date!

나와 U의 울릉도 여행의 목적은 크게 2가지 이다. 성인봉 등산 (좀 더 정확하게 말을 하면, 겨울산 등반) 그리고 코스모스리조트

Two themes for our Ulleungdo trip!Climbing Mountain Seonginbong and KOSMOS Resort !

2017에 개장한 울릉도의 힐링스테이 코스모스 (Healing Stay Kosmos)는 울릉도에 위치한 최상급리조트로써 어느 기사에선 '죽기 전에 꼭 가봐야할 리조트'라고 칭해지기도 했다. 물가가 높은 울릉도에서도 좀 고가의 숙박시설로 유명하다고 하는데,, 예전부터 너무 좋은 이야기를 많이 들어서 너무나도 가고 싶었고! 이번에 드디어 가게 되었다...!

코스모스리조트는 예약이 조금 빡세기 때문에 여유를 가지고 했다. 8월달에 12월달 예약을 하려고 보니까,, 이미 주말은 예약이 마감이었고 평일에도 예약이 몇개 남아있지 않았다,,,! 코스모스리조트를 가시고 싶으신 분들은 미리미리 예약 하시는걸 추천드려용 ㅠㅠ

KOSMOS Resort is a luxurious resort villa in Ulleungdo that first opened up in 2017. It is a bit pricey but since I heard so many good things about the KOSMOS Resort, I really really wanted to visit and it is finally happening!

If you are planning on staying at the KOSMOS Resort, you will need to book way ahead because it is actually not very easy to make a reservation at the KOSMOS Resort. I tried to book a room for my December visit in August, but the rooms for the weekends were sold out already and not many rooms were available for the weekdays as well. So I recommend booking your stay at KOSMOS Resort as early as possible!

또 다른 주의 사항이 있다면,, 바로 배편이다! 육지에서 울릉도로 가는 배편은 크게 2가지가 있다. 강릉에서 출발하는 배편 그리고 포항에서 출발하는 배편.

감자전도 먹고 싶기도 하고 강릉에서 좋은 기억들이 많아 오랜만에 강릉에 방문해서 강릉에서 출발하는 배편을 타고 싶었으나,, 겨울에 강릉에서 울릉도로 출발하는 배편은 운행을 하지 않는다 ㄷㄷ 겨울에는 오로지 포항에서 출발을 할 수 밖에 없다! 이 사실을 잊지말자,,

There are mainly 2 ferry routes that we can choose from, in order to enter Ulleungdo. Ferry from Gangneung and Ferry from Pohang.

Make sure to remember when make your bookings that during the winter, Gangneung to Ulleungdo ferrys do not operate, which means you can only leave from Pohang.

이미 서울역에서 강릉역의 기차표를 다 예매를 해놓았지만,, 다 취소하고 서울역에서 포항으로 가는 기차표를 예매하였다. 배 시간 때문에 12월 10일 (금)에 회사에서 퇴근 후 바로 서울역으로 향할 예정이다.

그리고 울릉도로 향하는 겨울 배편에 대해 한가지 더 주의 할 점이 있다,, 겨울엔 포항에서 울릉도 배편만 운항할 뿐만 아니라 그 배편 마져,, 자주,, 정말 자주,, 결항을 한다는 사실이다 ㅎㄷㄷ
이 사실을 아주 너무나도 감사한 에어비앤비 주인장님으로 부터 알게 되었다,, 이 부분을 몰랐다면,, 울릉도에서 못 빠져나오는 불상사를 겪을 뻔했다,,, 휴가일수도 없는데 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ

 

There is one thing that we all need to be aware when booking the ferry tickets during the winter. Not only the ferry departs only from Pohang but there is a high possibility of ferries being cancelled in the winter.  

 

Thanks to our AirBnB host, we got this information before booking our ferry tickets. According to our host, there is one ferry (more like a cruise ship) that rarely gets cancelled. It's the Ulleung Cruise (New Shidao Pearl). 

에어비앤비 주인장분 말씀으론,, 그나마 큰 불상사가 없으면 결항이 되지 않는 배편이 있다고 한다. 이름하여 ‘울릉크루즈 (뉴씨다오펄호)’이다!

풍랑주의보 등 정말 천재지변이 일어나지 않는 이상,, 결항이 될 가능성이 매우 낮다고 한다.

 

Unless there is an extreme weather situation (like the wind storm), Ulleung Cruise rarely gets cancelled. 

*주의사항* 하지만,, 울릉크루즈의 단점은 결항확률이 낮은 대신,, 다른 배편에 비해 항해시간이 매우 길다,, 총 6시간 30분,, (다른 배편들은 3시간 30분이다,,,) 그렇기에 거의 모든 객실이 누워서 자면서 갈수 있는 침대칸으로 이루어져 있다,, 그리고 자면서 가라고 밤 12시 30분에 배가 출항을 한다!!

 

*IMPORTANT NOTE* Although it rarely gets cancelled, Ulleung Cruise's travel time is much longer than the other ferries (Ulleung Cruise: 6 hours and 30 mins / Other ferries: 3 hours and 30 mins). This is why almost all seats? compartments? of Ulleung Cruise are sleeping compartments/beds. And the departure time is at 12:30 a.m., which means we will be sleeping almost the entire time getting to Ulleungdo. 

 

하지만,, 이미 오랜기간 회사에 휴가를 내고 가는 거기에 배가 결항이 되면 답이 없다...! 그래서 울릉크루즈 (뉴씨다오펄호)의 6인실을 예약했다! 6인실을 예약하면 다른 배편 (3시간 30분짜리)랑 가격대가 거의 비슷해진다!! 

 

6시간 30분의 긴 시간이 단점이라면 그만큼 정말 배가 큰 크루즈호라서 배멀미를 잘 안하고 또 배 안에는 편의점 등 각종 편의시설이 있다는 점이다! 

 

Although there is the long 6 hour and 30 mins travel time, since Ulleung Cruise is a giant cruise ship, I read that you rarely will get seasick and inside the ship, there are amenities such as a convenience store, restaurant, etc.
