울릉도에서 먹었던 것들 [아침식사 편] - Things I ate in Ulleungdo [For Breakfast]

울릉도 글을 쓰려니까 이것 저것 너무 쓸것도 많고 뭐부터 어떻게 써야할지 몰라서,, 일단 어떤 여행이든 먹거리(?)가 중요하다고 생각하기 때문에 울릉도에서 먹었던 여러가지 먹거리에 대해서 먼저 쓰려고 한당 헤헤 

 

I honestly do not know how I can begin my blog posts about Ulleungdo because there are just many things and I don't know where to begin. But since I think food/restaurants are very important in all trips, I want to begin by writing about the foods and restuarants I ate and visited visited in Ulleungdo. 

 

너무나도 안타깝지만, 사진이 많이 없다 ㅠㅠ 원래 사진을 많이 찍는 스타일이 아니라서 최대한 많이 찍어보려고 노력했지만 실패했다 ㅠㅠ

 

I usually don't like taking pictures so I don't have many pictures even though I tried to take as many pics as possible. 

 

일단 첫번째로 아침식사편이다!

 

[ 아침식사 - For Breakfast] 

 

1. 보배식당 (Bobae Sikdang Restaurant) - 홍합밥 (Mussel Rice) 

 

울릉도에 가는 배에서 내리자마자 먹은 보배식당의 홍합밥. 울릉크루즈를 타고 장시간 배를 탔더니 몸이 많이 찌뿌둥 했다. 본의 아니게 일출을 보면서 배에서 하선하자마자 렌트카를 끌고 찾은 보배식당. 식당 안에 사람이 많았다. 그래서 관광객 식당이 아닐까 하는 의심이 들었지만, 왠걸. 갓지은 뜨끈뜨끈하고 참기름 솔솔 뿌려진 고소한 홍합밥은 그 아침 찌뿌둥한 몸을 따스하게 데워주고 일으켜주었다. 함께 간 일행은 이 집 믹스커피? 식후 커피가 인생 식후 커피라고 하니! 꼭 식후 커피를 마셔보길! 

 

Mussel rice was our first meal after arriving in Ulleungdo. After a long, red eye cruise ride, we were feeling pretty tired. And after picking up our rental cars, we went stright to Bobae Sikdang and had mussel rice. There were lots of people in the restaurant which made me feel alittle suspicious, thinking that this place might be one of those touristy restaurants. But I was totally mistaken. The steamy, warm mussel rice with the nutty sesame oil was just enough to cozy up our bodies. My friend also told me that instant coffee (ones that are usually available in most Korean restaurants) at the restaurant was the best kind of instant coffee she's had in her life! 

 

 

추천? 완전 추천! 강추! 뜨끈뜨끈하고 고소한 홍합밥은 일상에 복귀 한 아직도 가끔 생각이 난당. 가격은 1인당 15,000원. 

Recommend? Absolutely! I sometimes think about the nutty mussel rice these days. 15,000 Korean Won for 1 person serving.

2. 99식당 (99 Sikdang Restaurant) - 엉겅퀴약소해장국 (Thistle Beef Soup) 

 

울릉도 성인봉을 등산 하는 날 아침에 먹은 음식이다. 울릉도의 대부분의 식당은 그전날에 한번씩 전화를 해보는걸 추천한다. 특히, 대부분의 도민이 육지로 나가있는 겨울철에는 더더욱 전화를 한번 해보고 식당이 그 다음날 문을 여는 지 꼭 한번 확인을 해봐야한다. 이 이야기를 하는 이유는 엉겅퀴약소해장국을 하마터면 못 먹을 뻔 했기 때문이다. 등산을 하기 그 전날 밤 7-8시 경? 쯤 99식당에 전화를 해보았다. 사장님께서 다행히 그 다음날 육지에서 울릉크루즈를 타고 들어오신다고 하셨다. 사장님도 전화를 잘 주었다고 지금은 포항에서 전화를 받는다고 하셨다. 

 

We had "Thistle Beef Soup" on our hiking day for our breakfast. We highly recommend you to call the restaurant you intend to visit the day before in Ulleungdo. It is important that you call the restaurant and check whether they will be open tomorrow, especially during winter season because most of the island residents temporarily close down their shops/restaurants and stay inland during winter season. We say this because we almost could not eat the thistle beef soup. We called 99 Sikdang Restaurant the day before our hiking (at around 7 or 8pm-ish?). The restaurant owner told us that she's in fact in Pohang at the moment and will be returning to Ulleungdo in the morning (thank god!). 

 

 

 

엉겅퀴약소해장국에서 건져낸 엉겅퀴들ㅎㅎ

 

추천? 추천! 엉겅퀴약소해장국양이 엄청 많다. 맛깔나는 반찬들도 여러가지 다양하게 나오는데, 그 양이 많다. 아침식사를 하고 산 정상에 올라가 대충 바나나, 귤을 먹고 하산을 했을 정도로 해장국의 양이 많았다. 난생 처음 먹어보는 맛이어서 그 맛을 설명하기는 좀 어렵지만, 울릉도 특산물?인 엉겅퀴로 만든 해장국이기 때문에, 울릉도에 방문하면 한번 쯤 먹어볼만 하다고 생각한다. 1인분에 10,000원. 

 

Recommend? Yes! They give you so much food here. Lots of delicious side dishes made with locally grown ingredients. We had a meal here and started hiking and we were still so full after when we reached the top that we only ate a banana and 2-3 tangerines and hiked down. It is difficult to describe how taste since I was exposed to a completely new flavor but I defintely recommend you to try the thistle beef soup because thistle is Ulleungdo's local specialty. 10,000 Korean Won for 1 person serving.

3. 풍미당제과 (Pungmidang Bakery) - 오징어먹물빵 (Squid Ink Bread) 

 

추천? 완전 비추 ㅠㅠ 가능하면 안가는걸 추천한다. 워낙 오징어로 유명한 울릉도이기 때문에 오징어먹물빵이 너무 궁금했다. 사실 찾아본 풍미당제과의 리뷰들은 그렇게 좋지 않았다. 그래도 그렇게 나쁘겠어?싶어 도전을 해보았다. 아침 9시인가? 거의 오픈시간에 맞춰서 방문했는데 정말 놀랐다. 아침의 빵집의 풍경치곤 빵을 굽는 냄새도 소리도 모습도 들리지 보이지 않았다. 빵집에는 언제 만들었는지도 모르겠는 수많은 차디찬 빵들이 이미 진열되어 있었다. 용기내어 집어든 오징어먹물빵은 그 차디참과 딱딱함에 놀라버렸다. 맛은 설명하지 않겠다. 나와 내 친구 각각 1개씩 먹고 나머지는 다 버렸다. 

Recommend? Please don't go here. We were pretty excited about this place because Ulleungdo is so famous for their squids and we were pretty curious about squid ink bread (which were supposedly made of Ulleungdo's delicacy). Frankly, the reviews of Pungmidang bakery were pretty bad but we were like "would it be that bad?" So we went to the bakery at around 9am but were taken aback a bit at the scene we saw. There were no smell or view of freshly baked breads but lots of who-knows-when-they-were-made, stale, cold breads were laid out on display. The squid ink bread we picked up was so hard and cold. I won't go into details about the taste. We each ate 1 bread and had to throw the rest out. Hands down the worst kind of bread I had in my life. 

 

4. 코스모스 리조트 조식 (Breakfast prepared at the KOSMOS Resort)

 

 

추천? 추천!! 코스모스리조트 투숙객에는 무료로 포함이 되는 조식이기에 코스모스리조트에 묵는다면 꼭 먹어보길 바란다. 코스모스리조트의 조식은 울릉도 핫플인 카페울라에서 먹는다. 물론 조식은 투숙객에 한해서만 제공이 되기 때문에 이 점 참고 하시길!! 사진처럼 한상 차림 형식으로 나오는데 아침에 눈이 일찍 떠진다면 코스모스 리조트 바로 옆 성불사 및 카페 울라 근처를 산책하고 나서 먹는 조식은 아주 꿀맛이다. 울릉도산 명이나물, 울릉도산 오징어로 만든 전 등 갖가지 울릉도 특산물을 먹어볼수 있는 깔끔한 조식식사였다. 

Recommend? Yes! Breakfast is included if you stay at the KOSMOS Resort so if you are staying at the resort, of course you should try the breakfast. The breakfast will be made with Ulleungdo-grown specialties including garlic leaves (in Korean, 명이나물) and locally caught squid. You will have your breakfast at Cafe Ulla where it is a popular touristy spot in Ulleungdo. If you are an earlybird, I suggest you to take a morning walk around the Seongbul Temple located right next to the resort before breakfast.
